Sydney’s Grand Showdown
Wow, what a way to end a V8 Supercar season! It all ends at the Sydney Telstra 500 and it is guaranteed to be a beauty. On track the Championship goes down to the wire and there are more off track activities than you can poke a stick at.
It all starts with the Grand Final Breakfast on Thursday morning. Fans can attend at a cost of $85 plus ticket fees through Ticketek. Then on Friday the event gears up at Sydney Olympic Park where there will be the Telstra Merchandise Alley, the Armor All Motor Show, the indoor paddock unique to the Sydney Telstra 500, a family zone, the Biante Historics Collection and of course the XXXX Gold Retreat. World famous skateboarder Tony Hawk will hold daily skate shows on the Saturday and Sunday at the Pedders Skate Park at 12 noon and 3pm. He will skate the Monster Vert Ramp, one of the biggest ramps in the world and the biggest in the country. And like last year, V8 Supercars has secured a big name act to keep the fans rocking after the racing.
On Saturday night, Guns N’ Roses plays at the ANZ Stadium in the event precinct with Spiderbait and The Delta Riggs as supports. Then on Sunday night Mondo Rock, The Angels and James Reyne will entertain the masses. V8 Supercar fans are definitely not known as wallflowers and are happy to serve up their opinions whenever they are asked – and sometimes even when they are not!
So when the Grand Finale’s sponsor, Telstra, ran a competition earlier this year to submit a message to their favourite driver, plenty of entries were received. The prize included flights and accommodation for the event, plus the message will be printed across the wall on pit straight so keep an eye out for it. A rapt John Smith from Brisbane was the lucky winner with his message to Supercheap Auto Racing’s Russell Ingall: “Enforce the streets of Sydney Rusty.” Congratulations, John!

James Courtney was in fine form at last year’s inaugural event but can he do it again to secure the Championship or will Jamie Whincup win his third straight title? And will John’s message encourage Ingall to enforce the streets of Sydney? Only time will tell but make sure you are there! Rock n’ Race weekend passes are available from $116 and all tickets to the Sydney Telstra 500, which runs from December 3-5, include free public transport to and from the event so what are you waiting for?
