Clipsal Countdown
The countdown is on for the V8 Supercars to hit the track in anger for the first time in Oz this year. After the ripper opening to 2011 at the Yas V8 400 in Abu Dhabi, the series has long been back at home readying for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide. Clipsal is one of the biggest parties on the V8 Supercar calendar and there is never a dull moment over the four days.
The Fujitsu Series, Australian GT Championship, V8 Utes, Aussie Racing Cars, Touring Car Masters and Formula Ford make a fantastic support line-up for the V8s. Glamour cars including Audis, Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis make up the field for the Australian GT Championship and for the first time at Clipsal they will race at twilight.
When the racing is over each day the entertainment continues with the concerts. The crew from the SBS music trivia program RocKwiz will hold a live show on Thursday while Birds of Tokyo headline the Friday night concert. A retro line-up including Mondo Rock, Leo Sayer, Uncanny X-Men, Pseudo Echo and The Chantoozies play on Saturday night and The Doobie Brothers headlines the Sunday night entertainment with The Sweet as support.

There’s also plenty of activities going on in the precinct including a family zone, cool zones, the Walk of Fame and Showtime FMX Freestyle Motorbikes shows. Make sure you check out the Armor All Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines where there are some drool-worthy road legal cars including 458 and F50 Ferraris, Gallardo and Murcielago Lamborghinis, a Maserati GTS and a Tesla.
The Parking Lot beer garden, which has food from salt and pepper squid to nachos and crepes, is tipped as the place to be at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide. For those who want to enjoy a few XXXX GOLD’s and don’t want the hassle of driving home or back to the hotel, there is free public transport for Clipsal 500 Adelaide ticketholders. And if you need your V8 Supercar fix a day early, MIX 102.3 is holding a drivers’ autograph session under the canopy at Rundle Mall on Wednesday, March 16 from 12 noon to 2pm.
